Cefuroxime axetil
Indications/Uses
Susceptible infections including bone & joint infections, bronchitis (upper & lower resp-tract infections), gonorrhea, meningitis, peritonitis, sinusitis, skin infections. Surgical prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Most infections including mild to moderate lower resp-tract infections eg, bronchitis 250 mg bid. Double dose in more severe lower resp-tract infections or suspected pneumonia. Gonorrhea 1 g as single dose. Lyme disease Adult & childn >12 yr 500 mg bid for 20 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ porphyria.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances including diarrhea, nausea & vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Reduced renal clearance w/ probenecid.
